Abstract

Demand for the house helpers / domestic helpers is on a rise in India and outside India as well. There are huge demand and supply of domestic work and workers respectively. With poor, unskilled women’s looking for employment and increasing demand for house helpers preciously in urban areas, the employment opportunities are growing in the segment of domestic work. Majority of the times the house helpers are females who have migrated

due to various reasons like poverty, male unemployment, sudden death in the family and debt bondage. Thus, to support the family financially these females – by and large unskilled or semi-skilled take-up house helpers / domestic helpers’ work.

This research paper targets at understanding the situation of these female house helpers / domestic helpers. For this research secondary information is collected from literature and for primary information data is collected from 50 domestic workers working at Sinhgad Road area in Pune city, India.
